The concept : enjoy off-piste in safety
To ensure that off-piste is above all a pleasure, Risoul identifies 4 off-piste zones with thorough, daily signage. Information indicating the level of risks incurred is posted at the obligatory entry points for leaving the pisted runs.
Description
Mountain zones : orange ropes :
rescue no longer ensured by the ski patrol.
Controlled zones : blue ropes :
these zones present potential risks of endangering others and are therefore closed whenever there is a risk of avalanche. You could be held responsible in case of accident.
Naturally dangerous zones : yellow ropes:
dangerous areas that are not patrolled or prepared, the site has steep slopes that require a perfect understanding of the dangers of the mountains.
Zones with no major risks : zones with no major avalanche risks, except at the bottom of steep slopes, but where natural hazards such as obstacles, abrupt changes in the gradient of slopes etc. may occur.
Mountain Zone
Orange ropes and information on the rope supports inform you that you are about to leave the ski area of Risoul ski resort and enter an off-piste zone that is not prepared. Rescue is no longer ensured by the resort ski patrol.
Controlled Zone
An avalanche caused by the presence of one or several skiers creating an overload in
these zones may have serious results for skiers on the slopes below. You could be held responsible for endangering others (ministerial order 31/12/02). These zones are marked out with blue ropes and have entry points indicating information. These entry points are closed when there is a risk of avalanche. Access to these zones is dependent on the Ski Patrol’s judgment and not just on user’s own decision.
Naturally dangerous zone
These zones are dangerous with steep slopes and are not patrolled or prepared. You need a good knowledge of the dangers of mountains to enter these zones. Yellow ropes will guide you to entry points where information about avalanche risk is posted. You can access these zones via the entry points only.
Zones with no major risk
You can access these zones by simply skiing off the open, marked runs. These are zones with no major avalanche risk, except at the bottom of steep slopes, but where natural hazards such as obstacles, abrupt changes in the gradient of slopes etc. may occur.
Any obstacles off open, marked runs are not marked by the ski patrol. The mountains abound with traps which may be hidden by the snow such as tree stumps, mountain streams or hollows.
