SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND WATERDescription
ESC Motor Pumps:The two hillside reservoirs were no longer sufficient to guarantee good artificial snow cover on the slopes from the beginning of the season,. Therefore, the resort set up a pumping system to channel water from the valley. 6 new motorized ESC (electronic speed control pumps) were put into operation. This ESC system saves from 30 to 50% of the electric power needed to channel water. In addition, using this pumping system meets the requirements of EDF (French electricity board) in favour of energy efficiency. Financial assistance was granted to the Town Hall of Risoul (the contractor) and the lift company , Sermont (the Investor) to exemplify the approach of this programme launched in PACA (Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region) . By 2015, the objective is for PACA to play host to a variety of innovations and become a testing ground for new types of energy. The idea is to respect the environment through different approaches such as water resource management, and carrying out an energy diagnosis (carbon footprint), and to implement an action plan to obtain the maximum score. "Snowstars" are awarded to ski resorts that strive to save energy, and this label is one of the selection criteria in the choice of destinations.
